FAQs

When is the 2026 Summer School?

Saturday 4th July – Saturday 8th August 2026

How do I apply?

You can either start by contacting the Study Abroad Office at your home institution if your university has established links with our programme. You can also apply yourself here if you wish to secure your place earlier in the application process

What do Visiting Students study?

Undergraduate Visiting Students generally choose courses that align with those offered to Oxford undergraduates. Typically, it’s not possible to enroll in subjects without prior university-level experience. If you’re unsure, just ask us!

What subjects are available to undergraduate Visiting Students?

Visiting Students can study any course available within the undergraduate courses here.

What are the entry criteria?

Each application is evaluated on its own merits, considering various factors, including:

  • Academic performance at the home institution
  • Relevant pre-university qualifications
  • Strength of academic references and personal statement
  • Suitability for study at Oxford
  • Alignment between the Oxford course and the home institution’s curriculum

Applicants should demonstrate academic standards comparable to full-degree students. Typically, successful candidates will have a GPA of at least 3.7 on a 4.0 scale (for North American students) or an equivalent strong 2:1 UK degree classification (for students with different grading systems). Each application is assessed based on the available information and in relation to other applications. Extracurricular activities are not considered.

Visiting students must also meet the relevant English language requirements for undergraduate admission.

What qualification will I receive as a Visiting Student?

While Oxford does not confer a degree or formal qualification for your time as a Visiting Student, colleges however can provide a record of your studies for credit purposes at your home university and that is what we provide; a tutorial record of your study with your final grade which U.S Universities transfer into credit. If necessary, we can confirm your status as a Visiting Student for employment purposes.

How much does it cost to be a Visiting Student?

Tuition fees for Visiting Students are consistent, regardless of nationality or residence.

I’m receiving/hoping to receive financial aid from my home institution, is this ok and what if the final balance payment due date is too soon for financial aid. Can you help?

Yes, just inform us early in the application, we want to help you with your application and won’t penalise a student who is qualifying for financial aid to miss out if the payment schedules don’t match perfectly.

Application Process FAQs:

What does the fee include?

The fee includes your tuition, your meals, your accommodation in Oxford, your excursions, your group photo keepsake. You will only need to bring money for personal spending and you will need to book your own flights – your flights are not included in the fee.

When do I have to decide to accept my place by, if offered a place?

We close applications on 30th April and the deposits are due 05th May 2026, we will already start offering places by 20th February and we will need to offer places to other students if they are not accepted so if we have not heard from you shortly after applications close – usually around the first week of April we will be writing to see if you are accepting or if we need to be withdrawing our offer of a place to a student on a waiting list.

Can I change my mind on the method of payment?

Yes, just let us know – bank transfers are preferred as they are more cost effective but you can make your deposit by one method and your balance by another,  just communicate this and let us know so we can activate your different payment method. Email admin@oxsummerschools.co.uk

Do you accept Credit Card payment?

Yes, for some students in the last years, a parent of family member has wanted to support a student with either the balance or deposit (or both) and wanted to pay on a credit card – we can accept this without difficulty, unfortunately this attracts a 3.25% card handling fee for what is an international transaction which we have to pass on to you – we don’t receive this fee.

Do you offer any scholarships/bursaries/financial aid?

No unfortunately we can’t offer financial aid towards your programme fee, but we can be flexible around your payment schedule if you are on a financial aid track in the U.S to make sure you don’t miss out.

Where will I be housed?

Housing is usually allocated on a first come, first serve basis, we have rooming at Magdalen College and at the adjacent St Edmund Hall College at their Tamesis House residence, which is just up the Ifley Road across the Magdalen Bridge, around 5 minutes walk. All teaching, meals and excursion departures will be from Magdalen College so all students will get that full Magdalen College experience. You will be informed of your housing allocation at the point of offer
